Preparing communities for change

Fuel cell vehicles on the road today meet U.S. safety standards. For the past several years, CaFCP has done extensive outreach with first responders in communities with fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen stations. First responders are educated on the properties of hydrogen and the vehicle systems. Emergency responders leave these workshops as comfortable with fuel cell vehicles as they are with conventional vehicles. While standards-setting organizations work to create specific codes and standards for hydrogen and FCVs, CaFCP works with fire marshals and other permitting authorities to understand the current codes that apply to hydrogen. Through workshops and the Hydrogen Highway online discussion list, authorities can find the information they need to permit hydrogen stations.
